Dingbatz 7-26-13 wrap up

Six To Eight Mathematics @ Dingbatz 7-26-13

We have always been a band that strives to maintain professionalism whenever we play a gig, be it at a new venue or one we’ve played many times before. It’s just a show of respect to both the venue and the other bands on the bill. We haven’t played Dingbatz a lot in the past, but this year so far we’ve done 2 shows there, and we’re happy to say the experience both times have been very positive! A large part of this stems from the staff at Dingbatz being very cool in how they run things. The first time we played was on June 1 with our friends The Accelerators. The night ran very smooth, we knew our set time and how long we had to play, and arranged our set to adhere to the time allotted. Basically we had a blast playing! The other bands that night were very cool and supportive, we felt good about our set, and the whole night was positive from start to finish. So when Dingbatz asked us to come back on July 26 for their Ladies of Rock Night, we were excited.

We were the first band on the bill, so we had the chance to set the gear up on stage then mentally prepare to rock! And rock we did, with a set of material from our new record Mental Melodies mixed with some older tunes. We ended the night with our cover of The Stooges’ Search and Destroy, always a fun song to play. Again, the crowd was very appreciative, and the staff very professional. Both of those elements always make for a great night of rock! We also give a huge thanks to the band that followed us, Sinners, for their shout out to us during their set, which was cool! It was great meeting them and some of the other musicians playing that night after our set.

It just goes to show you, when you’re a band who conducts yourselves professionally and with respect to the venue you’re playing and to the other bands on the bill, you will contribute to a great night of music and a positive experience for all involved. Face it, the current state of live music isn’t always conducive to us rock bands. So being able to work together to create a positive experience for both the performer and the spectator will go a long way into make the local scene strong. It’s the way it should be. Thanks everyone who came out and rocked with us! We look forward to returning to Dingbatz, as well as other venues, and playing our hearts out for you all!

Clash Bar 2-9-13 Record Release Show – wrap up

Six To Eight Mathematics - Record Release show

Record Release Show at Clash Bar

We’ve spent the last part of 2012 recording and pressing our new album “Mental Melodies.” It was certainly a process, sometimes pleasant, sometimes painful, but in the end when we heard the music playing back from the speakers we knew it was all worth it! The culmination of that process occurred this past Saturday, February 9 at the Clash Bar in Clifton, NJ, where we held our record release show. Joining us this night were our good friends Fury Within, Ingrid & The Defectors and The Heshers, bands who have gone out of their way to support us in the past as we have for them.

We knew this was going to be a great night of music and we got all that and more. Fury Within from Hackettstown kicked off the night powerfully with their punk/metal hybrid sound. We love doing shows with these guys out in Western NJ and definitely wanted them on this bill. Following them were NYC’s Ingrid & The Defectors with their brand of punk rock ‘n’ roll. We’ve always had a blast playing the city with them and knew they’d be a great fit for this night.

It’s become a tradition at our record release shows to play the new album straight through and throw in a couple of covers. That’s exactly what we did following Ingrid’s set. By the end, we knew all those months of recording were worth it for that moment when the crowd showed their appreciation for our performance. It was amazing to feel so energized after expending so much of it during our set! Our long time friends The Heshers closed out the night with their catchy, harmony-laden punk rock. We’ve known these guys for years and were happy they were able to play this night with us.

Speaking of the crowd, we really appreciate and thank everyone who made it out this night, despite a wicked snow storm the night before. It was a great crowd of old and new faces, especially other entire bands that came out to show support! That truly shows what happens when local bands come together and support each other! We thank you all not only for coming out and buying our CD, but continuing to go out and watch your favorite local bands give it their all! Lastly, we’d like to thank Bob and the staff at Clash Bar for providing us with a local venue that caters to original music. We truly appreciate it!

Thanks everyone! More shows soon!

Clash Bar – Sept 22 2012 – wrap up

Six to Eight Mathematics - Clash Bar - 9-22-12

Six to Eight Mathematics – Clash Bar – 9-22-12

In approaching the live gigs, we’ve come to realize what works and what doesn’t. The best scenario occurs when your band puts together a bill of like-minded bands at a venue that’s very supportive of original music. Happily, this was the case this past Saturday, Sept 22 at Clash Bar in Clifton, NJ. We’ve had many great shows at this venue in the past, but this particular night was one of the best we’ve had! From start to finish, bands and patrons alike experienced a night of great original music.

Starting the night off was the Break Evens. The talented trio of Jay, Mel and Mark performed their catchy brand of pop-punk that quickly entertained the crowd and set the tone for the rest of the night. They were followed by the Atomic Disasters, a new band whose quirky punk rock songs brought the fun, big time! Ingrid & The Defectors maintained that level of NYC punk rock excellence that they’re well known for (pick up their brilliant new recording, it rocks!). We then closed the night by feeding off the appreciation of the enthusiastic crowd and rocking our asses off, playing a preview of our upcoming recording!

We have to thank Bob Clash and the staff at Clash Bar for allowing us to present this night of original rock music to you all. We also must thank The Break Evens, The Atomic Disasters and Ingrid & The Defectors for being great bands as well as great people. And most of all, we thank you for coming and showing support for live original music! Together we all can keep this scene of ours strong! Until next time, keep ROCKING!
